OPNFV Verification Program (OVP)

In January 2021, OPNFV and CNTT combined to form Anuket. The OPNFV Verification Program is now being revamped. Stay tuned for updates coming soon.

The OPNFV Verification Program (OVP) is an open source, community-led compliance and verification program to demonstrate the readiness and availability of commercial NFV products and services, including NFVI and VNFs, using OPNFV and ONAP components.

Recognizing the need for neutral, open source, community-driven verification initiatives for NFV deployments are now critical to growing the marketplace for NFV products and services in the industry, the OPNFV Verification Program (OVP) was launched in early 2018 with a focus on commercial NFVI/VIM product offerings. Around that same time, ONAP began activities in its Beijing and Casablanca releases to focus on compliance activities for VNF vendors and chose the OPNFV Dovetail project for integrated tooling.

The OPNFV and ONAP communities — with direct involvement from major Communications Service Providers (CSPs) — have now joined forces to bring VNF compliance testing to OVP. The program is the first of its kind to combine automated compliance and verification testing for multiple parts of the NFV stack, allowing participants to establish baseline conformance and interoperability with their NFV/SDN offerings.

OVP offers testing of commercial products built on requirements from ONAP, multiple SDOs, and the LFN End User Advisory Group (EUAG) to demonstrate the readiness and availability of commercial products based on OPNFV and ONAP. The end goal of the program is to enable a longer-term industry effort focused on end to end system validation and interoperability integration through all parts of the stack.

Key Benefits: Service Providers

Accelerate time to deployment for new network services.

Improve interoperability and software quality.

Reduce in-house testing effort and reduce costs.

Key Benefits: Vendors

Improve time to revenue for new product offerings.

Achieve greater alignment with service provider customer requirements.

Demonstrate product quality through open ecosystem testing.

For the VNF component of the program, the current test suites include VNFSDK to perform TOSCA VNF Package validation and VNF Validation Program (VVP) to perform OpenStack Heat VNF Package validation. Vendors can now verify their VNFs through publicly-available VNF compliance test tooling based on the ONAP VNF Requirements project.

Also new in 2019 is the availability of a Verified Labs Program for third-party testing — giving users the choice to test products/services in-house or with neutral, designated labs. Benefits of third-party testing include access to testing subject matter experts, additional test infrastructure, and enablement of ecosystem-wide scaling as the number of VNFs entering the market increases.
